Private Condemnation; Public Acceptance
The Tulsa Beacon published an editorial this week. I'm not in complete agreement with it, because it seems to condone the excesses of preachers that live large on the contributed money of others. But I found some value in the writing.According to the Beacon, Charles Grassle, U.S. Senator from Iowa, is launching an investigation into the finances of a number of televangelists based on allegations against ORU. Grassle says he has launched the investigation because of complaints from constituents. He said, "The allegations involve governing boards that aren't independent and allow generous salaries and housing allowances and amenities such as private jets..."
Your primary function, Mr. Senator, is to see that taxpayer money is properly spent. How about you take a look at public college and university expenditures on presidents before going after the privates?
