The Fired Education Lottery Winner

SI.com filed a report that showed the details of fired OSU basketball coach Sean Sutton's buyout package.

Sutton's original buyout package called for him to receive $2.7 million over 10 years, including an immediate lump-sum payment of $300,000, but tax considerations led officials to restructure the deal to give him $2,197,460.

Of that, $836,459 will be withheld to pay applicable state and federal taxes, with Sutton to receive $328,500 by May 1 and $1,032,500 by the end of this year.

This guy didn't set any records or win a national title, folks. He got fired. Yet, if I read the above correctly, he will pocket $1,361,000 by the end of the year---for doing nothing. And that's net, because OSU is going to pay his income taxes for him.

All told, it appears Oklahoma State will pay $3,497,460 for men's head basketball coaches this year. Part of that for the one just hired, the other part for the one just fired.

Your tax---and tuition---dollars at work in public education.
