State Retirees Denied Soft Drink
According to The McCarville Report Online, retired state employees have been denied a COLA by the State Legislature. And in an election year no less. Fascinating.The feat was apparently accomplished through the efforts of, if you can believe this, Democrats.
According to McCarville:
Teachers, firefighters, police officers and public employees were denied a cost of living adjustment following a political stunt by House Democrats late Thursday night, Rep. Trebor Worthen said today.
"House Democrats, led by liberal Oklahoma City Representative Richard Morrissette, were successful in killing the cost of living adjustment that would benefit thousands of retired teachers, firefighters, police officers and other state employees," Worthen said in a news release.
“It is outrageous that House Democrats would band together to kill a bill that would benefit so many of our retirees, many of whom are living on a fixed income,” Worthen added.
Richard Morrisette, if I'm not mistaken, is a Democrat, a politician and a lawyer all at the same time. EEEEUUUUWWW! I need a shower.
Still, I've got to give the man props on this one. I didn't know he had it in him.
Worthen, on the other hand, sounds like a fellow that needs to be booted out of office immediately for his shameless pandering. He seems oh so concerned about retired government employees living on fixed incomes. Yet he seems to not give a fat cat's ass about non-government retirees, living on lesser incomes, that have to eat higher taxes to provide for the government retirees.
I've noted it before, and I'll do it again here. My mother is a private-sector retiree. She has been one for 20 years. She is, quite frankly, one of the lucky ones. She actually gets a pension, though it is, most certainly, but a fraction of what an average government retiree draws these days. Her pension has been increased twice in the 20 years she's been drawing it.
I don't want to hear any bitching and moaning from government retirees. And I damn sure don't want to hear politicians complaining about being denied an opportunity to further their political careers through the tried-and-true method of buying votes with my money.

Re: State Retirees Denied Soft Drink
Two things to report about Trebor Worthen:
1) I'm in his district (87);
2) This is his second term, and he says he's not running for a third. I surmise he can make more money in the private sector.
