Expelling Illegals a Bad Thing?
A federal judge, according to reports, has slapped a stay on the implementation of Oklahoma's illegal immigration law. Fascinating. It has apparently become unconstitutional for a state to protect its turf.I don't want to sound racist here. I know most people that come here from south of the U.S. border are looking for nothing more than an opportunity to scratch out a living. They are decent, hardworking, church-goin' family folks. But a couple of recent reports in the news tend to indicate making it more difficult for an illegal immigrant to come in and set up shop is a good idea.
I wrote a piece about free and reduced-price school lunches a while back. A fellow blogger attached a comment to that piece. Citing statistics from the Tulsa Public Schools' website, he said 67 percent of the student population was on the dole.
A few days back, I saw a KOTV report about school lunches through the summer months. That report said 50 percent of the TPS population gets free or reduced-price meals.
It seems there has been a significant drop, of late, in the number of children eating on the taxpayer dime.
Now comes Lori Fullbright of KOTV, reporting a significant drop in Tulsa crime stats for the first third of the year. Of note, murder is down 57 percent year-over-year, and car theft is down 33 percent.
It is said a lot of people packed up and left Tulsa when the state passed the illegal immigration bill into law. Now we see free lunches for school kids in decline and crime rates dropping.
Coincidence?
