According to Mike McCarville, Mayor Kat Taylor has hired KRMG radio's news director to head city communications.

Taylor says Durkee will head the Communications Department to help raise awareness of city services and initiatives. He'll also work to coordinate the public information officers and marketing of all city departments. Durkee's first day will be Monday.

His salary is set at $95,000.

Even as our local politicians are poised to pursue the largest tax increase in Tulsa history, a guy is hired for 95 large (nearly 3 times the state average wage)---plus perks---to provide such vital services as 'raising awareness' and 'coordinating.'

We've got crappy streets, but we've got this guy on the payroll. We don't have enough cops on those crappy streets, but we've got this guy on the payroll.
