Sinatra-Kennedy; Letterman-Obama

Once upon a time, Frank Sinatra busted his hump to get John F. Kennedy installed in the White House. In exchange for his grand efforts, Sinatra got his shoes pissed on by JFK.

I guess this would be a good spot to note that Dean Martin---Sinatra's good buddy---would have none of the campaigning for JFK. Dean warned Sinatra of what would come. Dean told Frank the Kennedys would be more than happy to use him up for election purposes, but they would never let him into the White House club. Dean was right.

After the election, a presidential vacation at Frank's place was scheduled. Frank went all out. He had a fake oval office built on his compound. He had Secret Service quarters built. He even had a helicopter pad installed. Then Frank was informed---by Kennedy clan member Peter Lawford---that JFK would be spending his vacation at Bob Hope's pad instead.

Frank, they say, never got over that.

Now it's David Letterman and Barack Obama. Letterman busted his hump to get Obama elected. All through the election cycle, he bashed McCain and Palin. He has, in fact, continued to bash McCain and Palin since the vote. And he has done little or no comedy aimed at Obama.

That is, until yesterday. Things seemed to have changed yesterday. All of the sudden, Letterman is on Obama's back.

The Obamas are, of course, vacationing in Martha's Vineyard. Letterman apparently scheduled a vacation trip for this weekend in that same venue. It seems he hoped to have a get-together with the Obama clan. But he has been pushed to the side. Barry will dine with Oprah; Letterman is not invited.

My, my, ain't it interesting how history repeats itself?
