Whatever Happened to Reason?

All over the news is the story of the little boy and his pocket knife/fork/spoon. He took the gadget to school so he could use it at lunch time. He’s been sentenced to 45 days in a reform school. Why? Because that’s what the rulebook says. Common sense, apparently, has no place in the discussion.

What should have been done here? Well, if the gadget is against the rules it’s against the rules. That’s fine. It should have been taken away and held in the principal’s office until the end of the day. The parents should have been contacted and told to not let the boy bring the gadget back to school. I think that would have been more than sufficient in this instance.

I recall my days in elementary school, back in the ‘60s. Eating utensils were present in the cafeteria. I had no idea I was surrounded by kids in possession of dangerous weapons. Thank God for education bureaucrats in the modern age. Kids are much safer nowadays. Har!

This incident reminds me of a similar incident that hit the national news in the mid ‘90s. My memory on the matter is a bit limited, but I believe an elementary school boy was suspended for kissing a girl. The rulebook said the boy’s act constituted “sexual harassment.”

Dude, when boys kissing girls becomes illegal the system has gone haywire. Likewise, when boys carrying toys becomes illegal the system has gone haywire.

How can we condemn hard-line Muslims for flogging a woman because she dared to put on a little makeup when stuff like the above-mentioned goes on in this country?

Get a grip, nanny-staters.
