Tulsa's City Hall: Good Deal or Stinky Deal?

News reports of the day say Tulsa has cut a deal to sell its old, vacant, City Hall for a million bucks. Simply put, we the taxpayers got screwed silly.

I was a little foggy on the old numbers, so I went to the web and found a Journal Record article from 2007. According to the article, the city paid $52.6 million for the Borg cube. Once renovation was included, our all-in cost came to $76 million. The money to finance the move was borrowed.

Today's reports say the city paid $600,000 in utility bills associated with the old building last year alone.

So, we spent $76 million---plus interest---to create a new City Hall. We just sold the old one for a million bucks---which is apparently about enough to recover the money we've spent on the building while it has been boarded up.

Former Mayor Kat Taylor---self-proclaimed business genius---said the move would be a moneymaker for Tulsa taxpayers.

Now you know why Kat Taylor can't get anything but a gubment job.

What most people do not yet realize is that the Borg Cube financial arrangements dictate a 5-yr interest-only payment, leaving the actual mortgage to kick in 5yrs hence (from 2007?), well after her excellency is gone.
