TPS' Brand Change
According to reports, Tulsa Public Schools has a new logo and a new slogan. Marvelous. This morning, I saw video on a news report showing a blue school bus with the new logo and slogan painted on its sides. That crap costs money, folks.
Here we are in what educators call their worst fiscal crisis ever. Educators say they have no money for classroom supplies. Teachers are being laid off. The world as we know it is coming to an end! Yet one of the biggest districts in the state has money to burn on nonsense.
I was working at Tulsa Community College when it changed its name from Tulsa Junior College. I can't cite any specific figures, but word in the day said the college spent tens of thousands of dollars on that name change. Signs had to be changed, letterhead had to be changed, and so forth.
This is one of those things you should have in your mind as you decide whether to vote yes or no on SQ 744---the educators' bid for what would initially be an $850 million boost in state funding for public schools.
If you're too stupid to figure this one out, you really don't deserve the right to vote.

Re: TPS' Brand Change
Heard State School Super-elect Janet Barresi on KFAQ's noon show and she stated she was opposed to SQ 744.
Too bad she doesn't take office until Jan 1, 2011.
